It all started with a dream of America – seeing the big, dynamic city, the beautiful spots and the lavish holidays in movies, videos and pictures.
Everything I saw there inspired and motivated me to take this step, and I ended up at one of the Work and Travel USA offices.
After a number of consultations, my friend and I learned about the terms, signed up and eagerly waited for the "America" adventure to begin. I could say so much, but there's no way to fit it all on one page.
The flight, the arrival, the work, the travels, the traditions, the emotions, meeting new people and discovering unfamiliar places – I became part of all of it and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
My job was in tourism, more precisely in a hotel, and the place was Ocean City, Maryland.
My position: housekeeper.
My duties: helping the hotel guests, taking care of their needs, assisting them when necessary and making them feel cozy and welcome.
The best part was New York. We left at the beginning of September – a group of about 40 Bulgarians – and the drive was about 6 hours. We arrived early in the morning.
The first stop was the Statue of Liberty – a majestic sight of a monumental structure, a unique feeling. We looked, took photos, admired it and listened to the story of the monument. We also visited the Empire State Building, Top of the Rock, Central Park, Fifth Avenue and many other famous places, each, of course, with its own identity and history. There's no way I can fully re-create what I experienced and saw by telling my story, but those who have already been there know what I'm talking about, and to those who are about to go, I can only say that they won't regret it and that every single place they go will be worth it!
The "America" experience is incredible, and I would definitely do it again.
