A few days ago a smiling and excited girl came to our office – Hristina. She had stopped by to see us and share some of the emotions she experienced during her second WAT summer, and she managed to energize us too for a long time.
Here is what Hristina Dimova shared about her summer adventure in America.
This was Hristina's second year working at the Cape Cod Inflatable Park. She also managed to find a second job at a hotel – as a housekeeper – and was also a bartender's assistant at the hotel's restaurant. As she puts it: "A really cool team, I worked with Serbians, it was super fun and the work didn't stress me out at all."
After the end of her first summer job, she went on trips to Boston, New York and Miami. This year, however, she wanted "something more", and together with a few friends she decided to take a longer trip.
Their first stop – the Big Apple. This year they arranged a 4-day stay in New York. They visited the tallest building in the USA – One World Trade Center – and the view of the city from there was "something unique". They went to Rockefeller Center and the Empire State Building. They were very impressed by the Madame Tussauds museum and managed to take a boat to the Statue of Liberty. They took a long walk in Central Park and took photos in front of the fountain that opens every episode of one of her favorite TV series, "Friends". She told us how an American woman struck up a conversation with them and told them they mustn't miss trying the famous New York cheesecake, for which dozens of people lined up all day long. Hristina shares: "I really liked New York. It's my second year going there, but there's still a lot to see. Yes, we really did travel an hour and a half on the subway every day, because we were staying in Brooklyn. Oh, yes... another interesting thing – the neighborhood we stayed in was a Jewish neighborhood. Everyone was dressed in suits and hats, and the neighbors' kids playing in the yard wore formal clothes, the girls in dresses. It was as if they had stepped out of a movie," she shared with a smile. No matter how many times she travels, she would always want to come back to this city. Despite the super hectic daily life and Times Square teeming with people at any time of day, the feeling of being there is unique. "Only when you go there can you understand why New York is called the city that never sleeps!"
Next stop on the East Coast – Boston. They visited Harvard University and the city library, which impressed her with its architecture and style. Hrisi told us a funny story about lobsters: her group – a German and two Chinese girls – decided to try the famous lobsters, and not just anywhere, but at a Chinese restaurant. When the dishes were served, no one knew how to eat lobster or where to start, so they asked the waiter for a quick lesson. After many attempts, which were not very successful, and a lot of laughter, they gave up. Luckily for them, this restaurant served the lobsters with rice and their favorite bites in sweet and sour sauce. "..we paid good money for nothing – good thing there were side dishes, so we didn't go hungry after a whole day of walking around. I'll definitely remember those lobsters for a long time."
The last stop on the East Coast was Niagara Falls. They spent almost a whole day there – they took a boat that went right up to the falls. They got pretty wet, but it was fun and they had a great time. They waited until dark to enjoy the light show that is held in the evenings.
That's how the first part of their trip around America ended, at the end of the summer. After that they headed to the West Coast and Las Vegas – The City of Lights!
Stay tuned for Part 2
