What Can We Do on Cape Cod?

A few ideas for what to do in your free time

Cape Cod Edition

  1. A walk along the shore

The Cape Cod seashore is home to some of the finest and most popular beaches, including Wellfleet's Marconi Beach and Race Point Beach, famous for its sunsets.

  1. Explore the local museums

On the Cape, however, not everything revolves around the beaches. If you are a history and art lover, you can visit:

The John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum – where you can see some of the Kennedy family photos and memorabilia.

The Edward Gorey House – in this house museum at Yarmouth Port you will discover some of the illustrator's eerie drawings.

  1. Stroll the old streets of Provincetown

At the tip of Cape Cod lies P-town – a charming tourist town. Along Commercial Street you will find art galleries, souvenir shops and attractive restaurants for all lovers of good food.

  1. Lobster!

Almost every town has its iconic place to eat lobster. The Lobster Pot, with its big red neon sign, is quite famous in Provincetown. You can order lobster any way you like – baked, steamed, cooked or stuffed – either way, it's all delicious!

  1. Kick off your day at Wicked Oyster – a local favorite and one of the best places for breakfast.
  1. Sign up for the famous whale-watching tours

On the pier in Provincetown, you can sign up for whale watching. From there you will sail out into the Atlantic Ocean in the hope of seeing some of the species that inhabit these waters, and maybe a dolphin or two along the way.

  1. Take photos of the Nauset Light lighthouse

If this historic red-and-white lighthouse looks familiar, that's because it inspired the logo of 'Cape Cod' potato chips (the company's factory is in Hyannis and offers tours).

  1. Mini golf

A summer night on Cape Cod isn't complete without playing a few rounds of mini golf. One of the most popular places on the peninsula is Pirate's Cove, a pirate-themed complex in South Yarmouth.

  1. Watch a movie at an open-air drive-in theater

Grab your friends and visit the Wellfleet Drive-In Theatre for a nostalgic movie night. The theater was built in 1957 and is the only one in the Bay State. For the full experience, stock up on popcorn and candy before the movie starts.
