To learn a new language, it is not enough to go to a language course, vacation or camp. There are 3 things at the core of mastering a foreign language.
- We need to be motivated to learn it, – unless we ourselves want to speak/write in another language, we cannot succeed, even if the best teacher is teaching us.
- Surround ourselves with the written or spoken word on a daily basis. Whether you
- listen to music – recommended for more advanced learners;
- watch a movie with subtitles;
- read a book – preferably a children's book with pictures or with a translation;
- use a language-learning app – there is plenty of choice (Duolingo, Memrise, Babbel,…).
There are many options, as long as we want to!
- Communicate with people whose native language you want to learn.
There are monthly meetups, Language café – foreigners living in Bulgaria and Bulgarians who know one or more languages get together. It is a useful social gathering where you will meet new people and exchange language knowledge.
There are also websites that offer the opportunity to talk with a native speaker at a time convenient for both sides.
From our modest experience so far, we know that it is easiest to learn a language if you practice it every day. It doesn't matter how big your vocabulary is – if you can't express yourself with the words you know, then you don't know the language.
Here you can browse various language vacations, which are a good start and an opportunity to consolidate knowledge you have already gained.
